There is always hope
Yesterday's newspapers carried the very tragic case of a Form Four student who plunged to her death, allegedly, while trying to leave home through a
window after midnight because her family had forbidden her to go out that late. The 16 year old girl was an above average student, held in high esteem by her teachers and was made head prefect just a few days before her death.

While the details of this and many other equally tragic cases may differ, it generally appears that in many of these situations there is breakdown in family communication, trust and understanding. This is something of great concern to the Federation, made more urgent due to the number of calls to our hotlines, from both parents and children alike, seemingly desperate for help. We believe that there is always hope in the relationship between parent and child, especially if it is nurtured with mutual respect, understanding and open communication. We have the services and professional expertise to help mend these broken relationships through our Parent-Child Mediation Centre and the Family Life Education Units.
